This is normally the most profitable time for most hair companies. This is the season in which most women spend hundreds if not thousands of dollars on VIRGIN HAIR! Yes, I know this may sound crazy but it is in fact the truth. Years ago when I began to venture into virgin hair, I was very wary of buying hair from just any hair company or vendor. I was unaware of what to look for, or even where to began my search. After wasting countless hours and wasting several thousands of dollars, I can a test that I'm pretty good in spotting a VIRGIN! Virgin Hair is an investment and if you make the right purchase it can last you for years. But how can you be so sure that you are purchasing virgin hair? Here are a few tips that can help you out.
- Where To Start: When deciding on who to order from, utilizing the Internets search engine such as Google can become quit helpful. Search for Virgin Hair Companies/Vendors. Check for product reviews, (you can often find these on hair forums and YouTube) While YouTube Vloggers are great resources for reviews, Some may lie to viewers for their own personal benefit, such as doing paid reviews or the continuation of receiving free products, so it is still best to use your own discretion. Check to see if the company is legit and registered with a Tax Identification Number. Check for the companies history, web based paying customers testimonial's and check out the companies return policy. Does the company offer money back guarantees or an exchange in the event that you are unhappy. Ask if they offer samples so that you may test the hair out upon purchase.
- Hair Pattern: Commonly, Virgin Hair should not have a defined, uniform curl or wave pattern. (As Noted in the picture) If you notice a very defined wave or curl pattern, this is one indication of Non Virgin Hair. Most Hair companies and Vendors will use high temperature stem, to create certain hair patterns and textures. In this event and although some may advise you otherwise, the hair is no longer considered Virgin. Virgin Hair is hair that is completely unprocessed. Unprocessed meaning it has not been colored, bleached, relaxed, or processed in any way. This also means that it comes from a single donor and all cuticles are aligned and intact, running in the same direction.

- Natural Color: Virgin Hair should only come in a natural color. Natural color meaning the natural hair color of the donor. It should not come in colors such as red, jet black, or any other exotic colors commonly found in Beauty Supply Stores.Virgin hair should never have a chemical smell. It should not smell like a relaxer or any products (NOTE: some companies may wash hair prior to shipping) In order to test to see if your hair has been chemically altered, Place it in a sink of hot water and check for product build up such as hair dyes. You should not notice any changes in the color of the water. Virgin Hair can be processed to any color of your liking, however it is best to seek the assistance of a Color Expert if you are in experienced in this area.
- Maintenance: Treat your virgin hair as if it is hair growing from your own scalp. Use shampoo and conditioning products that are sulfate free such as Moroccan Argan Oil, Carol's Daughter, Abba Moisture Sensation or L'Oreal Paris Everstrong Hydrate Shampoo. Sulfate is a harsh chemical used to provide cleaning power. These harsh sulfates have been linked to causing skin irritations and hair loss. After cleansing your hair, use a wide tooth comb and began to detangle starting from the ends and work your way up. Contrary to what some may say. Virgin Hair is hair and just like hair growing from our own scalp, it is prone to shedding. However you should not experience excessive shedding, tangling nor matting.
With each passing day, a new hair company is being established. While some are trustworthy others are deceiving and only out to make a profit. They do not care about the quality of their products, their customers satisfaction, nor their reputation. I can not stress the importance of doing your research.
Never be afraid to ask questions, after all its your money that you are spending!
